Csordakuti mine, Bicske-Zsambeki Basin, Fejer Co., Hungary
5,5x4x3,7 cm. (main Mellite 2,4x2x1,9 cm.)
Very rare mineral species and one of the best Mellite ever seen. Mellite is an organic compound, exactly aluminum mellitate (benzene hexacarboxylate) hydrate, generated as secondary mineral in lignite fossil deposits (Mesozoic and Tertiary era). Crystals of this quality are rarely seen and the best specimens come from this mine in Hungary. This piece features sharp faces with vitreous luster, translucent aspect and clay inclusions.
