Outstanding old collection mid-to-late 1800s “chocolate” Calcite from Bigrigg Mine, Bigrigg, Egremont, Copeland, Cumbria, England, UK – below the Calcite crystals surface, but only present on one side, ther’s a thin layer of brown Hematite, probably an earthy-clay variety (microcrystalline powdery); here and there, under close up, the Hematite layer appears bicolor with a delicate pale nuance from red to brown ; every crystal has transparent to translucent aspect with an excellent sheen ; on the reverse many tiny and reddish calcite crystals complete the extraordinary beauty of this specimen – in conclusion we can certainly assert that for rarity, age and color contrast, this superb specimen is absolutely a “must have” for any collector – overall size 10x8x4,5 – main Calcite crystal about 3 cm.
